Who wouldn't want to be a superhero and run around in a fluttering cape? So get your needles going and make a cape for the little superhero or superheroine in your life from 2-3 balls of Super Soxx Color 6-ply.

Garment measurements:  

Chest                       60/70 cm

Length                     45/53 cm

Materials: LANGYARNS SUPER SOXX COLOR 6PLY (75 % Virgin Wool / 25 % Nylon) 200/300 g = 2/3 balls of 910.0369 (Superhero). ADDI knitting needles, size 4mm (US 6, UK 8). 1 short circular needle or set of double-pointed needles, size 4mm (US 6, UK 4).

Pattern I:                 

4mm needles: seed st, worked in rows = RS: p1, k1. WS: k1, p1, i.e. staggered with RS. Repeat rows 1 + 2.

Pattern II:                

4mm needles: stocking st = RS k, WS p.

Tip: The cape is knitted sideways, from sleeve to sleeve.

Gauge:                      

Pattern II, 4mm needles:
23 sts     = 10 cm (4“) wide.
32 rows = 10 cm (4”) long.
 

Front and back (knitted sideways): Cast on 133/159 sts. Knit 8 rows in pattern I, then distribute pattern as foll: 6 sts pattern I, 121/147 sts pattern II, 6 sts pattern I. At about 22.5/27.5 cm (9“/11“) from cast-on continue knitting each side separately. For back, knit 92/110 sts, leave rem sts on hold. For neck, cast off 2 sts at the left edge, then dec 1 st at same edge on every other row twice = 88/106 sts. Continue knitting straight. At 30/35 cm (11¾“/13¾“) from cast on, you have reached the middle of the piece. Continue knitting straight. At 35/40 cm (13¾“/15¾“), inc 1 st at the left edge on every other row twice and cast on 2 sts once. Leave these sts. Now knit the rem 41/49 sts for the front. At the same time, for neck, cast off at the right edge on every other row: 6 sts once, 4 sts once and 2 sts once, then dec 1 st at same edge on every other row 4 times = 25/33 sts. Continue knitting straight. At 31.5/36.5 cm (12½”/14½”), inc 1 st at the right edge on every other row 4 times and cast on at the same edge: 2 sts once, 4 sts once and 6 sts once = 41/49 sts. Resume knitting overall 133/159 sts, knit straight in pattern as set. At 58/68 cm (22¾“/26¾“) work 8 more rows in pattern I. Cast off all sts.

Finishing: For armhole, sew together the cast-on and cast-off edges of front and back 13/14 cm (5”/5½”) below the shoulder marker. Neck: With circular needle pick up 94 sts (front = 54 sts, back = 40 sts). For the i-cord edge, cast on 2 sts onto your right needle. *K1, K2tog tbl, sl 2 sts back onto left needle* rep from * to * until 2 sts remain. Cast off the las 2 sts and sew them to the start of the i-cord.
