Cast on 168 sts and purl 1 WS row.
On the first RS row arrange pattern as foll: 1 edge st, work 2 sts in garter st (pattern I, for the right edge), repeat the 10 sts of the pattern 16 times across (pattern II), k2, work 2 sts in garter st, 1 edge st (pattern I, for the left edge).
On the WS rows work the sts as they appear, from the first 3 sts (1 edge st, k2) to the last 3 sts (k2, 1 edge st), always work the garter st edge as given in pattern I, so that the edge does not roll.
Work both patterns to a length of about 140 cm (55“), then cast off all sts evenly on a RS row.
Sew in ends and block the scarf, stretching it slightly under a damp cloth.
